Although I really had to get used to all that gold on this Submariner, the watch was definitely an eye-catcher and felt right in terms of weight, size and looks. The blue dial was amazing, espcially during daylight.

Since BaselWorld 2009, Rolex introduced the new stainless steel/gold Submariner 116613. As I planned to attend BaselWorld 2010, I assume that one of the models that Rolex will be introducing will be the new Submariner in stainless steel, probably with the same case design and bracelet as the full gold and gold/steel models. I would consider this a good successor to the 16600 Sea-Dweller and 16610 Submariner, as the new Deep-Sea Sea-Dweller is a totally different design from its predecessor. However you never know if Rolex is actually going to introduce the Rolex Submariner 116610 this year, that they will come with something completely different or that they will skip a year with their innovations.

Audemars Piguet Millenary 4101 - One Of The Nicest Surprises in 2011

As the title of this post already says, the AP Millenary 4101 was one of the nicest horological surprises in 2011. Some of you probably know that I have a weak spot for the Royal Oak, but this Millenary suddenly appeared on my list of favorite watches as well. The oval watch case is definitely something different and the fact that the oval shaped in-house movement caliber 4101 is specially built for this watch makes it even more desirable for me.

 

The dial with the decentralized small sub dial with the center pinion (to which the hour and minute hands are attached) create the optical illusion that the dial is also oval. The small seconds sub dial blocks the 7 and 8 o’clock Roman numerals, but it is very playful and still looks elegant. AP probably realized that their clientele is not only Offshore minded, but there is still a large fan base that likes them for their ‘haute horlogerie’ craftsmanship when it comes down to movements.

The wearer of this Millenary ref.4101 is able to see one of the most important parts of it, the escape-wheel. Also, a lot of  Côtes de Genève finished bridges have been put to the surface so they can be admired in full. The rotor of the caliber 4101 movement should look familiar to you,rolex replica, it appears to be the signature rotor of AP’s in-house movements. I personally love the heavy looking 22 carat gold rotor with family weapons engraved in it. As you can also see on the pictures, the case has a the finish you’d expect from a watch manufacturer considered to be amongst the finest in Switzerland. The satin brushed side of the case and the high polished upper and lower part looks amazing. It is like a polished band that captures the satin brushed case. The crown has been signed AP and although I haven’t tried it yet, it appears to be easy to grasp.

Audemars Piguet also uses the Millenary to show what they are capable of in terms of watch making, take the Seconde Morte (dead beat) complication for example in their Millenary Tradition d’Excellence N°5. This caliber 4101 Millenary is not your typical dress watch, but certainly worth considering if you are able to move approx. $22.000 USD for a timepiece. This Millenary 4101 is also available in 18 carat  pink gold.

The former generation of Millenary watches are quite small for modern taste, but this 4101 has a wearable dimension of 47mm (w) x 42mm (l) and only 13mm in height. The watch comes with a hand-sewn alligator strap and a AP folding clasp in stainless steel or 18 carat pink gold. The clasp has the AP initials like we’ve seen on the Royal Oak models with stainless steel bracelets.

I guess I am not the only one who has been a fan of this watch as soon as it was introduced during the SIHH last January, this particular watch has received the Prix du Public during the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie which was recently held in Geneva.

Although I have mentioned the Linde Werdelin SpidoLite SA All Black before (click here), I never really published about it, since I don’t want to become too biased. On the other hand, this blog represents my own interest in watches and brands, so why not? Fellow Dutchman Martin Wilmsen’s website (WristWatchPhoto), normally dedicated to Panerai watches, mentioned the SpidoLite SA All Black a few days ago. I was blown away by the pictures he took and he told me I could use them for my own blog if I wanted to. Well, here you go. The SpidoLite SA All Black DLC version was introduced on the 15th of October 2009, retailing at 9.800 Euro. This DLC’ed titanium watch is limited to 88 pieces world wide, and is available for pre-order via the Linde Werdelin website or through one of their distributors. Like all SpidoLite SA versions, the movement is a A.Schild caliber 1876 modified by Svend Andersen. The rotor, made from blue gold, is engraved with both the LW and Andersen Geneve logo. Svend Andersen is an independent watch maker, based in Geneva, and respected member of the AHCI (Horological academy of Independent Creators). Actually,replica watch wholesale, Andersen is one of the founding members of the AHCI, an initiative from 1985 for (master) watch makers to demonstrate that watch making is more then meets the eye. I think it is important to stretch that despite its size (dimensions: 46mm (w) by 49mm (l) by 12mm (h)), the Linde Werdelin watches wear very comfortably on the wrist.

Ocean7 LM5 Review - The World's Most Beautiful Diver

To be honest, until recently Ocean7 wasn’t brand that had watch models that I could mention from the top of my head, except for the LM-7. The Ocean7 LM-7 has probably been the watch model that people will know this brand for, it is a homage to dive watch watches of the 1970s according to the official Ocean7 website. People will immediately recognize the LM-7 being a homage to the famous OMEGA Seamaster Plo-Prof of course. To be honest, Ocean7 did a pretty good job in creating an alternative for the vintage OMEGA Seamaster Plo-prof. This was in the period before OMEGA re-introduced their own homage to this watch a few years ago with their new in-house caliber 8500 movement.

Anyway,buy hublot watches, Ocean7 is a brand that I’d like to call an ‘internet community’ watch brand. There are more brands like this, like Sinn,swiss replica rolex watch, Tutima, Xetum and a lot of others. It is a brand that is being carried on the hands of watch connoisseurs who are active on forums and blogs and like to attend watch meetings to discuss their favorite watches. The largest watch community website, Watchuseek, has the official Ocean7 forum and owners and prospect buyers are showing their love and enthusiasm for this brand.

I got the opportunity to review the LM-5 dive watch by Ocean7, one of their more recent models and Ocean7 even claims it to be the world’s most beautiful diver. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but there isn’t much you can’t like about this particular model. It reminds us about one of the high-end diving timepieces by Blancpain, the Fifty Fathoms, which is indeed one of the most beautiful divers in the world according to many. Ocean7 is actually being quite honest about their styling cues used for their watches, hence this LM-5 design and the design of the earlier mentioned LM-7 Plo-Prof.

One of the things that the official Ocean7 website doesn’t say, but what I want to mention here, is that this proofs again that a nice and “good quality” watch doesn’t need to be that expensive. A lot of people have other priorities for their saving money but do want to own a quality timepiece. In my opinion, Ocean7 jumped into this market with quality mechanical watches for a decent price.

 On to the watch review. First of all, I would like to note that I am not a talented photographer like my colleague Ming Thein is. The sapphire crystal and the high polished watch case makes this a beautiful timepiece, but very difficult to photograph without all the reflections in the dial and case, as you can see below.

As you can see, the watch has quite some detail. The bezel with large luminous Arabic numerals has a sapphire crystal inlay really stands out. The corresponding numerals on the glossy black dial makes it a very readable watch. There is only Ocean7 wording on the dial, no other referrals to the model type, type of movement that has been used or the water resistance level. Only the stainless steel case back reveals the make and model of this watch, together with the fact that it is water resistant to 200 meters / 20 atm. The dial has a small date aperture between 4 and 5 o’clock, Ocean7 luckily used a black date wheel to have the whole date feature blend in perfectly with the rest of the watch.

 The watch comes with either a 3D carbon leather strap, a stainless steel mesh bracelet (+ $199.- USD) or both (+ $269.- USD). The leather strap is referred to as 3D carbon because of the structure of the strap. It happens to be a very soft and comfortable strap, but I think I would prefer either the mesh bracelet or a black alligator strap. I know, very undive-ish, but I think I would like the look of it. The strap comes with a solid working double deployant clasp, also known as the ‘Cartier’-clasp or butterfly-clasp. It works very simple but effective, first you close one side of the clasp, then the second part and press till it clicks. Secured. The clasp is being released again by pressing the two buttons.

Ocean7 paid a lot attention to the details of this watch, as you can see on the picture above regarding the winding crown. The crown is easy to grasp and has been finished with the engraving of the company’s O7 logo. The diving bezel is unidirectional, like a bezel of a diver’s watch should be of course. The bezel is easy to operate, a tad bit heavy to turn but with firm clicks. There is almost no play in the bezel, which is giving me a comfortable feeling about the quality of the mechanism.

All-in-all, the LM-5 an attractive no nonsense watch that gives value for money and makes me hungry to learn more about that big fat LM-7 Plo-prof model they have in their collection as well. For only $899.- USD, the LM-5 is honestly priced and even with the optional choices like the mesh bracelet and COSC certified movement (+ $399.- USD) this watch is still far cheaper than a lot of other diving watches of similar quality. Personally, I would skip the COSC movement and go for the mesh bracelet option instead.

Although I am not sure what type of movement’s in side the COSC model, this model has the ETA 2824-2 movement. Like a diesel engine that has been seen in a lot of other watch brands as well, including Longines, Breitling and so on. Mind you, that the finish of this ETA movement probably differs from the ETA movement used in the more expensive brands.

Aren’t their any cons? Of course, there are some. Like I already mentioned, the one-side anti-reflective coating makes it a bit shiny in combination with the glossy dial. On the other hand, the only time this bothered me was when I was trying to take pictures of the watch. I also am not a fan of these type of straps, but that’s a matter of taste in my opinion.

One of the things I didn’t mention yet, is the domed sapphire crystal of which the surface is below the sapphire bezel. This means that if you put the watch on its top (i.e. on the bezel), the crystal doesn’t touch the surface of the desk or table you put it on and won’t scratch or damage (although I know sapphire is hard to scratch, it’s the idea that I like).

AP Royal Oak 15300 more interesting than the 15202 (a.k.a Jumbo)

When I borrowed the AP Royal Oak Offshore Rubber Clad from Watch-Site, I got the AP Royal Oak 15300 as well. Just to do some look & feel on this watch. Not too long ago, I was a bit reluctant on this particular model, since there was only one Royal Oak, and that was the Royal Oak Jumbo, also known as the ’15202ST’. I have written many times on this Jumbo by Audemars Piguet, saying it was my dream watch or number 1 or 2 (this position changes back and forth with the PP Nautilus 5711/1A) watch that I need to have somewhere in life.

Friends of mine have the 15202 and are quite clear on the 15300. A no-brainer, because of the second hand with the ‘wing’ on the short tip, the movement and the thickness of this watch. The movement used in the 15202 is indeed a beauty. However, I think that focusing on movement only is not something you should be doing. It should be the whole package of design, usability/wearability, price etc. that needs to be right. Besides a different movement (AP caliber 2121 vs 3120), the 15300 is a bit more masculine than the 15202 Jumbo. One of the first things that got my attention was the look & feel of the entire watch. The stainless steel watch case (39mm) and bracelet with satin finish is heavier than the 15202. Not only in weight, but also in the construction of the case and bracelet. The bracelet of the 15300 feels solid and the size is just right, as opposed to the bracelet on the 15202 Jumbo,cheap leather handbags wholesale, which feels a bit fragile.

I am probably stepping on toes of purists here, and I am a bit amazed myself as well, that this watch gives me this impression. Given the price of the 15300 – market price approx.6500 euro versus approx 8500 euro for a 15202 – I don’t know if I would care enough for the caliber 2121 of the 15202 to pay almost 2000 euro premium for it. I think I prefer a case and bracelet that are more convenient and wearable than having the cult version (15202) with a movement that is more sought after.

The dial of this white fellow is pretty neat as well with its famous pattern of the AP RO and applied logo. The hands and hour markers are made out of 18kt gold. The only downside of the dial is the lettering of Audemars Piguet and Automatic. The font is a bit too bold, and they could have left ‘Audemars Piguet’ off the dial completely, as the applied logo makes it clear that you have an AP anyway. However, this wouldn’t be a dealbreaker for me personally.

When handling an AP Royal Oak, I am always impressed by the finish of the case and dial. The satin structure of the stainless steel (or gold) is true craftmanship and way more impressive than let’s say, my IWC Ingenieur 3227-01. When you touch the bracelet of the AP Royal Oak, you can actually feel the satin brushed lines on there. When you do the same with an Ingenieur for example, you just feel a smooth surface.

The caliber 3120 movement in this watch is a real beauty. The 22k gold rotor with impressive engravings covers the 4.25mm flat movement (which is very flat) inside the 15300. The sapphire displayback gives an excellent view on this small masterpiece. I don’t know if it’s because this transparant caseback, but the watch is only guaranteed water resistant for 50 meters (5 bar). This isn’t very much for a watch that is considered to be ‘sporty’.

Taking the price of this particular watch (it’s for sale at Watch-Site) into consideration, 5750 Euro,watches replica, dated 12-2007 complete with box and papers, it is a very interesting stainless steel sportswatch, that still breathes the ‘cult’ of Genta’s original design of the 1970s. Given the price and the updated design, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak ref.15300ST could be more interesting to buy than the iconic Royal Oak ‘Jumbo’ ref.15202ST.

I remember Omega introducing the Speedmaster X-33 in 1998 with a digital display, it took me a while to start breathing again. Factory Visit To Audemars Piguet in Le Brassus

Elizabeth Doerr, journalist for Revolution Magazine,wholesale discount handbags, visited the Audemars Piguet factory in Le Brassus and additionally got some tanning on the Hydroptere, the world’s fastest sailing boat.

Besides visiting AP’s factory (see picture above),real leather bags, Elizabeth also had a look in the AP museum and the nearby Audemars Piguet Renaud et Papi facility. The Renaud et Papi facility is wear all the complicated magic happens for Audemars Piguet and some other brands.

Auction house Dreweatts 1759 in London,rolex replica watch, is auctioning a large number of Rolex watches in their upcoming event on the 9th of December. Their catalog can be downloaded via this link, and contains 161 lots. Ranging from Rolex Datejusts to Daytonas (stainless steel!), the price / value indications seems to be very low. All lots are watch heads only, which means there is no bracelet or strap with the watch. Even with the cost of a genuine Rolex replacement bracelet,rolex explorer II replica, it is far below today’s market prices for a pre-owned Rolex.

Dreweatts clearly states that all serial numbers of these Rolex watches have been checked with Rolex UK and none of them have been reported lost or stolen. Also, buyers of these lots are being encouraged to purchase a strap or bracelet from an official Rolex retailer.

The subject of today’s photoessay is the seldom seen,cheap designer purses wholesale, but utterly sublime, Chopard LUC Chronometer. A modest 38mm in diameter, it’s powered by the Chopard LUC 1.96 movement. The movement has twin barrels providing a 70 hour power reserve, and a solid gold micro rotor for winding; not only do I think the finishing is amongst the best I’ve ever seen – even under heavy magnification – it seems that the folks awarding Geneva Seals thought so,buy hublot watches, too. Interestingly, it’s also a very flat movement for an automatic – just 3.3mm. No doubt the micro rotor architecture contributes meaningfully here; it uses an ingenious lobed cam to drive a rocking pawl that ratchets back and forth to wind the barrel in small increments. The escapement is also similarly full of meaningful detail: the hairspring has a Breguet overcool and is held in an adjustable stud carrier, the regulator has a micrometer screw and tension spring to eliminate backlash. This particular example also happens to be a special edition, and has a hinged half-hunter case back which hides the sapphire display back. Sadly though, we don’t seem to see as much of this caliber as its obvious beauty merits – hopefully rectified to some small degree by this photoessay. Enjoy! MT

Marc Menant (product manager at Jaeger-LeCoultre) mailed me the latest JLC novelty An iPhone application that enables JLC adepts or prospects to examine their line of watches more thoroughly,watches replica, where ever you are.

After downloading the 50MB application,rolex gmt ii replica, I was immediately stunned by it. The graphics are amazing, the included videos are very nice to look at and even better.. you can fiddle around with the watches in the catalogue. The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso can actually be reversed by a simple movement on the touch screen, the chronograph functionality works when tapping the pushers properly etc.

Perhaps the nicest feature is the one that enables you to assemble a part of the watch movement. These watch courses have an introduction video, and afterwards, you can try to assemble the movement yourself. Impressive!
